Before having this subject, I know nothing about interaction design, and even did not realize about this design stream. But through out the process, I learnt a lot about the way to interact between technologies and the audiences. That could be very powerful and effective.

Within my progress, I read a lot of interesting readings and websites that I had never gone through. I wish I could have more time to explore more on all these topics.

At the very beginning of the project, I was so confused on what we are going to do next. So I gone through many things related to interaction design and found that is something we need to contact with in our everyday life. It is so interesting once you look deeply into this subject.

What I need to improve is my time management. In the later stage, I could not finish my things (readings and blog) within a week. Usually, I needed to leave some of them to another week, that was really hard to catch up. So, maybe next time, I should set a fixed time period to finish my works every week.

Sometimes, I was not sure whether our process and what we had done are really what we should do. We were not sure about our direction. During the consultation, we knew what we need to do next and felt like we’re in the right track. But after working on, we were so confused again. So, usually we might have different views and needed to sum up which one is better after the consultation.

The difference of this subject with others is that, we have lots of freedom to explore into different criteria, not just about the things related to interaction design. It is almost everything. Anything that is interesting may be very useful in our project and our learning. That is in fact, helping us to understand more about our world.

Week 12 participation diary

Today we had a casual presentation on our participation diary. When I was preparing for it yesterday, I took a look at my participation diary once again. I found that at the very first stage, I could finish all I need to do in each week. But at the later stage, I could not make it as there were so many other projects to work on. So, most of the time I had to leave the things for another week. Despite this, I had tried my best to finish all of them when I have time. Through out the process, I think I really need to improve my time management. Maybe by fixing a certain time for blogging and reading every week, so that I can make sure they can be finished every week. But overall, I think I worth to have a distinction. And for my groupmates, as our work load and constribution are quite equal, I really agree with each of us to have an distinction on the participation.

During the consultation, we talked about what we have already got at current stage. Blair gave us the ideas on what we should include in our report and we thought we had already got into the right track.

Reflection on personas + scenarios

Today, chloe and I worked out the personas and scenarios part of the final report together. Both of us expressed what we had gone through during the process and what we had learnt from it. We found that once we started writing about the reflection, we had a lot to talk about. This may because the personas and scenarios are something that we did not know about before doing this project. And we did know more about what we need to do next after setting up these two parts. We are sure the personas and scenarios are not only useful in this project, but also in other projects or even those not related to design.

When gathering up all the things that we had gone through, we had planned to include all the documents as the extras of our final report. So, I visualized the results of our survey by drawing and send them to Nelsie, together with the report chloe and I had done today. Nelsie will organize the report and will collect all the extras.

Week 11 meeting + consultation

Today, we discussed on and outlined the basic information of the report. We have planned for what should be included in the final report and each of us need to finish a certain part of that. When we consulted with Blair, we finally understanded that the main concept of the report is our working process, that’s what we have learnt from the process and what is interesting during our process.

I have refined my persona of “Peter”:

After the refinement, I found the persona is really very helpful on deciding what kind of design the person need. With a larger picture of the personality, I could imagine what kind of people that Peter is and what he would react in different situation.

Lastly, our group had finalized the solution on our topic. This is a technology that inspired by Nokia. It could be folded into a mobile phone or a watch and it could be sticked on the wall as an alam clock. We all appreciated with this idea very much.

We did the outline of our final report today and allocated “what to do” for each of us. Nelsie will work on the introduction part, chloe and I will work on the personas + scenarios part, and vita will work on the survey part.

14.05.2008 week 10

In this week lecture, Tania showed us about the deadlines of different stages and reminded us on the requirements of the final report. These information really pushed me a lot. haha. During the consultation with Blair, he commented on our personas. He told us that we did not go deep enough with those personalities. We still need to explore more on the personalities of the personas, put ourselves into their shoes. Also, at this stage, we can start writing our report regarding on the research part.

After all, we need to rewrite our personas. Think deeply about the personalities of them, work on the scenarios and try to sketch on the ideas of the communication method.

Today, we’ve our week 9 consultation with Blair. Nelsie was sick, so we just have three group members.

Blair guided us on what should we do next. What we’re still missing at this stage is the personas and the scenarios. We have to work out the personas first and then decide on what the groups of audience need and how they could communicate with the device.

After that, we have decided to set 4 different groups of audience: students(work by chloe), junior workers(work by me), senior workers(work by vita) and elderly(work by nelsie). We will set up the personas for each group of people, then think about what kind of system is suitable for each of them. After setting up the personas, we will work on the scenarios before the consultation time of next week.

Understanding Design by Kees Dorst

I’ve read through the articles regarding on the design education. They were so inspiring. It’s difficult to choose the best article from them, because I think they are all related to each others. I’ve marked down some points as a note for myself.

- aware of design experiences
- communicate with tutors
- take things you learned from one project into the next
- students usually tend to cling to the first idea. Tutors have to create the impression that it’s a good idea when it is not.
- must learn in practice, ie job (never stop learning)
- design schools – ability to feed and assist student’s development

The articles inspired me on not just what should be done in the design education, but also, they inspired me on what a design student should do, either in school or after graduation.

24 Apr Video Presentation

Yesterday was the video presentation day. Some of our classmates really did a great job on their video. Most of us used some special effects to produce the video. I really enjoyed watching them. For our group, honestly, we still have much to improve. But we all appreciated of what we have done so far and enjoyed the production process. We will keep going and wish to have an even better result at the final step.

21 April Meeting

In today’s meeting, we kept on working out our video. We gathered up all the drawings and confirmed that no scene is missing. Then, Vita continued to add in the new scenes to the video. During the time, Chloe and I discussed about the CD case design. We planned to use our Supercow logo and our project theme on the cover of it. At the end of the meeting, we had finished all the scenes and the script which was done by Nelsie. Also, we had come up with the design of the whole CD case. What we need to do next is to combine the video with the sound recorded by Nelsie.
